Radio Message
Easter or Passover?

March 2002

This year Easter falls on the third day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread (according to the scriptural calendar). Few members of ch-chianity actually know that all New Covenant believers are commanded by the sacred Scriptures to observe Yahweh’s Passover Memorial and Feast of Unleavened Bread.

The Apostle Paul makes this fact very clear. "Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, even as you are unleavened. For our Passover also has been sacrificed, even the Messiah: THEREFORE LET US KEEP THE FEAST, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but WITH THE UNLEAVENED BREAD OF SINCERITY AND TRUTH." (1 Corinthians 5:6-8). Reread this passage slowly and allow its message to penetrate your heart. Since the Messiah was sacrificed on Passover Day, we, as True Worshipers are obligated to keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread!

The term "feast" occurs almost 40 times in the New Testament. Thirty of these instances directly relate to one of Yahweh’s Holy Days legislated in Leviticus 23. Here in 1 Corinthians 5:6-8, which contextually is meant to instruct the Corinthian Assembly, we find Paul’s reconfirmation of the Feasts of Yahweh for this New Testament era in which we are now living.

All Messianic believers in this era are required to keep the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread, since Almighty Yahweh is consistent in the doctrines that He has established for His human creation. You may find this instruction in Malachi 3:6, where we read, "For I, Yahweh change not; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed." Also in Hebrews 13:8 we read, "Yahshua the Messiah the same yesterday and today, and forever."

I wonder if you truly paid attention when you attended Chr-stian communion services, since various passages of Scriptures were read. Did you listen closely while these passages were read from the sacred text? Many times the ministers of ch-rchianity read passages from New Testament describing how Yahshua the Messiah was betrayed and impaled upon the tree, how He instituted the memorial ceremony of remembrance with the eating of the bread and the drinking of the cup at the last supper for all His disciples. Curiously, people appear not to understand.

In these instances terms such as "Feast" or "Feast of the Passover" or "Feast of Unleavened Bread" will customarily appear. The average member of the various denominations of ch-rchianity seems illiterate regarding the understanding of the Old Testament message. They do not grasp the importance of observing Yahweh’s Feast Days. They cannot seem to understand the close relationship between the doctrines of both of the segments of the Bible known as the Old and New Testaments. It is as though people do not even hear (or grasp) the words being spoken! It is indeed regrettable that more of these Old Testament terms do not make a greater impact or impression, because it would point people back to the True Worship according to the manner in which the Old Testament Laws outline its perimeters. What foundation does one have if he rejects the Old Testament, since so many quotes from the Hebrew Bible appear in the New Testament?

Consequently, there is a reason why all these terms and concepts from the Old Testament must be carried over and expressed in the New Testament Scriptures. From the record of the Apostolic Assembly we learn that these Scriptures, accepted as prophecy, were fulfilled by the Messiah. Nevertheless, the religious organizations that reject the Law of Almighty Yahweh and separates the Old Testament from the New Testament, have caused the members of ch-rchianity to lose the basic keys with which to interpret the Bible correctly. Many doctrines would immediately become very clear and the doctrinal problems would be completely solved if Chr-stian theologians would harmonize the Bible, the Old and New Testaments, from Genesis to Revelation, as the Assemblies of Yahweh ministry teaches.

In the Assemblies of Yahweh, we have determined to follow the Scriptures as perfectly as we can. The Scriptures are very plain, clear, concise, and simple, if we allow the Bible to speak to us directly and with authority. The Bible tells us in Deuteronomy 16:1 (if we take a literal translation of the Hebrew text), that we shall watch for the new moon of green ears and then keep the Passover unto Yahweh. This is what we do in the Assemblies of Yahweh. We watch for the new crescent moon, which rises over the fields of headed-out barley, and this event tells us that on this day falls Yahweh’s New Year crescent moon to mark the beginning of the month of Abib. We then count 14 days and we observe the Passover to Almighty Yahweh. We follow the Passover with a seven-day Feast of Unleavened Bread, wherein, the first day and the last day are designated as Holy Days for assembly and worship. We do this in commemoration of the Messiah, faithful to what He instructed us, in keeping the commandments of Yahweh. See Matthew 5:17-20.

If you have never considered these things, I would like to urge you to write for our free literature on the subject of the Holy Days of Yahweh. In the Assemblies of Yahweh we strive to keep the Passover Memorial that is specified for us in the sacred Scriptures. It is during this time that we honor Almighty Yahweh, our Father in heaven, with the remembrance of the exodus from Egypt, our personal exodus from sin, and the sacrifice of Yahshua the Messiah, the Passover Lamb of Yahweh that takes away the sins of the world, John 1:29. Write in today! The two free articles are entitled, "The Sacred Appointments," and "How to Keep Yahweh’s Holy Days."
