The massive cliffs in the cover photo present an awe-inspiring sight to the traveler who journeys in the Land of Israel. Red in color, these rocky cliffs bring to mind the protection Isaiah the prophet describes in chapter 33, verses 14–16. Archaeologists tell us that the red color comes from a copper content in the rocks, since the Egyptians operated a mine and smelter at the site. The site is currently known as the Pillars of Solomon, located in the Timna Nature Preserve. It is located about 40 miles north of Eilat in the Arba Valley. Nearby is the site of Jotbathah, the location of one of the encampments of Israel (Numbers 33:33–34). At this site was discovered a shrine dedicated to the cow of Hathor erected for the Egyptian miners. See Deuteronomy 8:9. Much more could be said about the site, however, it has reminded us that things once prized in ancient times fell victim to change. We must realize that this world of allurement in our time, though magnificent, will soon give way to the enduring Kingdom of Yahweh. Are you preparing for it?
