Matthew 28:19 |
T he
biblical record has been repeatedly proven by modern-day archaeology. The
cover photograph this month gives visible evidence of additional proof.
King Hezekiah, the Jewish monarch who was a great reformer, at the
beginning of his reign cleansed the Temple, the House of Yahweh (2
Chronicles 29). Furthermore, Hezekiah removed the local high-places and
destroyed the pagan worship (2 Kings 18). When confronted by the Rabshakeh,
a court official of King Sennacherib of Assyria, the Assyrian declared "…
Is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken
away…" 2 Kings 18:22. Perhaps he intended to play upon the frustration of
advocates of local autonomy. Apparently at Beersheva, Hezekiah had broken
up the altar of the high place and had dispersed the pieces, building them
into the walls of public buildings. The blocks were collected by
archaeologists who reassembled them. The original altar can be found in
the Negev Museum in Ashkelon, the altar appearing on the cover being a
replica. Don’t sell the Bible short by heeding the critics. Yahweh’s
sacred Scriptures is repeatedly proven to be true!
